I started to practice yoga a bit out of curiosity. Ten years ago, I was reading about it and it and it seemed a real cool way to exercise. Did I expect to get some physical benefit? Maybe, but I was skeptical. My first teacher was a lovely lady, her voice was calm and she guided us through each posture in a gentle way. I loved her approach immediately. The benefits of yoga soon begun to reveal themselves outside the classroom. My back improved and my body became more flexible. I even convinced Koos to join me, although he was even more skeptical then I was.
We met Ankan about two years ago. His way of teaching yoga related to us. We were ready for a new challenge and Ankan gave us that. He awakened an appetite in us to discover how much we can do with our bodies. The effect did not go by unnoticed. We did not only see progress further in our physical well being but also mentally we changed. It is hard to describe but perhaps the word ‘balance’ comes closest. Through exercising the different yoga postures, our mind comes to rest which creates a sense of balance and peacefulness.
Of all the things we hoped to gain from yoga, the last one would have been a sense of enjoyment. But through practicing yoga, we have found a new source of happiness. To empty your head and come to rest after a busy day, to discover that you can do that posture (just a little deeper), to meet new and interesting people and share ideas and experiences. Yoga has become an integral part of our life and makee it more complete.
